I have always asked myself, how can I get mental maps from the web dynamically. There might be different ways of making it happen, but I want to share my idea: the software I want to build consists in that, mental maps that are represented on the screen using different tools.
For example, you can just make your research and make a concept node be related to another one with your own relationship arrow. This means you can relate two or more concepts by yourself depending on own your research.
But this tool can be improved to make those relationships between concepts by using, for example, the Wikipedia API, which has many ways to make filters and have relationships between concepts.
This means we could study different concepts and its dependencies or the concepts that the first ones depend on, and have a full scheme on your screen, having recorded the relationships between concepts, getting relationships made of those concepts by other people, filtering relationships and kinds, defining those concepts and opening windows to see those definitions, etc.
My idea is to have a program with which you are able to make better and greater academic works. I present the mental schemes as the basis of this project, because I think every concept node can be a whole world and depending on the filters that you set, the world becomes smaller. This is necessary to reduce as much as needed the information you will have in every concept node. At the end, I expect you to have a mental map or scheme with nodes and relationshipts on the first view, but you can get details by clicking or tapping any node. Schemes would be part of general projects, and a project can have as many schemes as needed. Projects can share schemes, and users can share schemes between them. For example, an scheme about "life" would have many relationships, but you might only want to filter the relationships it has with biology, and the kind of relationship could also be filtered. You can name this scheme in a way that other users would not need to do it again, focused in certain matter. The other users can import the scheme into their projects and be able to modify it. These schemes will give the user the posibility to have a whole view of what surrounds a specific concept, so that the project has a clear view of its concepts, a visible theoretical framework just to make sure you won't lose the big idea.
